Learn more about our history!

It opened its doors on 09/09/1992, as a brewery and snack bar.

It had several saltwater aquariums with shellfish from the lagoon, such as clams, cockles, scallops and oysters.

In another wing, it had lobsters, crabs, sea urchins, among others.

It operated as a shellfish restaurant until the 2008 crisis, which lasted until 2012, forced us to turn to a more economical approach.
It was then that the idea of a seafood restaurant and aquariums was abandoned and a commitment was made to serving daily meals.

This ideal remains current, with a daily dish being prepared with a fixed menu for two weeks, repeated every fortnight.

In the 90s, 2000s and until the crisis hit the country, opening hours were from 7.30 am to midnight. After that, a schedule was chosen that would fit in with the new model, and the opening hours were then and still are today, 8 am and closing at 7 pm.

Until then, this establishment was open every day of the week. With the change in opening hours, the decision was also made to close on Sundays, making this a fixed day for the weekly rest.

It has always been a family business, started by the parents and since 2014, a daughter has continued the business.

The name Neptune came about due to its proximity to the Óbidos lagoon, around 2km away, and due to the fact that we initially had endogenous products from the lagoon.
A local artisan was asked to paint a tile painting of the god Neptune, in honour of the Óbidos lagoon.

This painting is now the establishment's trademark, as are some of the exhibits belonging to local shellfish gatherers and fishermen.

The space has not changed much since it opened. The biggest differences are the open-air terrace and the semi-covered terrace, which used to be completely covered, and the minimalist but welcoming and comfortable interior, which used to be full of aquariums.
